The Antennas

VHF

For 2 Meters (FM) I use a vertically polerized 7 element ZL special. I live in a strange location, being fairly high but with lots of higher points surrounding me. Having a rotatable beam for FM work is a must.

HF

For HF (20 meters) I use a Modified CB silver rod type antenna. With the loading coil removed and two radials added at the bottom, then tuned for resonance it makes a decent antenna. Mounted approximately 6 feet from the ground on a pole driven into the ground by 3 feet.

Scanning

The Watson dual band vertical I used to use for 2m/70cm has been demoted to recieve only, working very well as a receiving antenna for VHF/UHF.

Pictures

This second picture shows the 20 meter vertical mounted at the bottom of the garden. (Photographing a aluminium rod against a cloudy sky is not easy!) Radials are mounted along the top of the fence.
